The Kane Chronicles

The Kane Chronicles are written by Rick Riordan and focus on Egyptian mythology. It is a very interesting series with tons of twists and turns. If you have read and enjoyed any of Rick Riordan's other mythological series then this one is definitely worth a try. It is a great story about the power of family and friendship against great evils. This book has also been turned into a graphic novel if you prefer that format. I love this series and would strongly recommend it to anyone who likes adventure or fantasy.

The Heroes of Olympus

The Heroes of Olympus is a companion series to Percy Jackson. It combines Greek and Roman mythology into a fast paced, excitement filled story with tons of twists and turns. When the leaders of both camps wake up in the opposite camp with no memory of anything they must work with people who distrust them to try and save what they love the most. This is an inspiring story of the strength of friendship and surmounting impossible odds. I really enjoyed this series and would encourage anyone who liked Percy Jackson to read it.

Miss Perigrine's Home for Peculiar Children

I have just finished reading the first book in the Miss Perigrine's Home for Peculiar Children series and I really enjoyed it. It joins historical photographs into a story that is both sweet and adventurous. This series is about a young boy named Jacob who's grandfather used to tell him stories of the peculiar children that lived in the children's home where he used to live. When Jacob meets these children that he thought were just characters from fairy tales, he is thrown into a major adventure to save these people he has just meet and can hardly understand. This story is a really nice tale of personal growth and self discovery. The movie adaptation of this book is coming out in September for those who would like to read the book before they see the movie.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is probably one of the most read series of all time. Very few people have not read the series but almost everyone has seen the movies. It is a story about a young boy who learns that he is a wizard and the attends Hogwarts School for Wizardry and Witchcraft. I feel that the movies are a fairly good representation of the books and are entertaining to watch. Because both the books and the movies are well known there are many quizzes, activities, and sites dedicated to Harry Potter. There are now many companion novels and fan collectibles available. If you haven't yet read the Harry Potter series I would highly recommend it.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns

This is the first book in an amazing trilogy by Rae Carson. It is about a princess who was been chosen by God for a service and is about to be married to the king of another land. Throughout the story Elisa grows from a young unconfident princess to a strong queen who realizes that in order to help others believe you must first believe in yourself. I really enjoyed the series from start to finish and all it's twists and turns continue to keep you interested.

The Orphan Queen

The Orphan Queen is a gripping tale about a young princess who has seen her country overthrown and her parents killed. Now, she and a group of other children, called the Ospreys, are trying to take back their country and free their people. I really enjoyed this book because it is suspenseful to the point you never want to put the book down. The main character, Wilhemina, is a very strong person who develops through out the story. At the start of the novel she is sure that she will do whatever it takes to get her and the Ospreys back to Aecor. By the end she realized that she isn't willing to sacrifice the people she loves to get her kingdom back, and she isn't willing to go against her morals in order to get her kingdom back. I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense and fantasy.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus series. It is a mythology, adventure genre book by Rick Riordan. It is one of my all time favorite series and in the first book Rick Riordan manages to capture your attention and make you want to read the whole series without stopping. I love all the adventure and the fact that although this is a book about mythology and things that would never really happen all the characters are very relatable. From Percy, who is your average good kid that always manages to get in trouble, to Annabeth, who is a brainiac to Grover who is a nervous nelly and class clown. I really love this style of writing as it combines real mythological facts and stories with fictional characters to create an amazing and suspenseful story that grabs your interest and never lets go. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and would recommend it to anyone who likes adventure, and mythology.
